Local Sustainable Farming

La Honda Winery’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Post & Trellis Vineyards, manages over thirty private spectacular estate vineyards throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains. Each vineyard is sustainably farmed with a vigilant respect for nature. Every farming practice we employ is deliberate and intended to enrich the vineyard soil and the immediate environment. No heavy equipment ever enters our vineyards. Every vineyard is harvested by hand in small bins, and every lot is meticulously hand-sorted to assure mature, luscious, clean fruit.

As the venerable Wine Spectator magazine said, the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation is “the most underappreciated appellation in the world.” Conditions in the Santa Cruz Mountains are exceptional and unrivaled. Grapes grown in the rugged soils of the coastal mountains lead to complex character and concentrated flavors. Steep slopes, shallow soils, and the coastal range environment create challenging and demanding conditions. These conditions yield fruit and wines that are delicious, captivating, and full of personality.
